Video Editing Software

I needed some video editing software, so I headed over to Wikipedia to see if they had a software comparison, luckily they did. I prefrerred a GNU-GPL licensed version, and found one: Avidemux. I downloaded it and started playing around. It had trouble handling the size of the files I shoot from my Vimeo, but it was good enough.

Problem was in about 12 minutes or so of screwing around I couldn't actually figure out how to edit the video (e.g. move different parts around, add in photos and other videos, etc.).

My previous video editing experience was with iMovie, which I was able to start playing with within minutes.

So, I went back to the Wikipedia list, and looked for alternatives. The other GNU-GPL licensed options weren't what I wanted for what I want to do, so I downloaded Lightworks. It has a pretty cool website. You have to give your phone # and e-mail to download, which sucks, but the screenshots remind me of iMovie, which is encouraging (as is mention of The King and I filmmaker preferring the software). Unfortunately, my computer is telling me I don't have enough RAM to run the program.

I have a meeting to get to now, so I'll have to try again another day to get some video editing software.

Do you have any recommendations for free video editing software that runs on Windows? and/or advice on using Avidemux?
